History

Denny Ellefson (aka “Dad” &/or “the Old Man”) started Ellefson Builders in 1975 primarily building spec & custom homes in & around Winona County. All of our homes built back then met the minimum building code requirements. As our society has become more energy conscience, we transitioned our construction methods away from simply meeting building codes. We believed we could build better energy-efficient homes, provide better thermal comfort and better Indoor Air Quality all within a similar budget. So our company invested in the newest technology & education and volunteered all of our homes into Energy Star’s home certification program. And the results were a huge success. Owners were overwhelmed when they saw how low their new utility bills were.

While we continue constructing new homes, re-roofing, remodeling projects and new home additions, ALL of our projects are performed under the guidance of our energy-star knowledge and our whole-house approach. After seeing how successful our new energy-star certified homes were, we now offer home performance analysis & weatherization services for existing homes using our infrared & blower door technologies. And in 2008, we became certified to offer radon mitigation services in existing homes.
